Cancer Care

What is Cancer ?

Cancer is a type of disease in which the abnormal cells in certain parts of your body grow at an uncontrolled pace. This leads to a malignant tumour, which can then spread to other parts of the body as the condition progresses.

Tumours that are cancerous, or malignant, spread into other tissues in the nearby areas. Also, as the condition spreads, some of the cancerous cells can break off from the original area and move to other parts of the body through the blood stream or the lymph system.

When this happens, it can result in new cancerous tumours in those areas. Even if a malignant tumour is removed via surgery, it can sometimes come back again.

Some tumours can also be malignant. This means that they will not spread to other tissues in that area. Also, when they are removed by surgery, in most cases they do not reappear again. However, while most benign tumours are not life threatening, benign tumours in the brain can be fatal.

In many cases, an OT will be able to guide you on various medical aids and accessories that can assist in day to day routine for the patient, such as bathing, eating, mobility and such.
